Paying for RV Insurance in Oklahoma

image of an rv traveling throughout OklahomaMany people in Oklahoma use RVs and similar vehicles to see the sights. The state had 17,653 motor homes and 80,582 travel trailer registered in 2016.

When you set out in an RV, you want to protect this often-expensive investment. Carrying adequate RV insurance is important. However, you have to take steps to keep your coverage active at all times.

RV Insurance in Oklahoma

Almost every driver in every state has to carry auto insurance on their vehicles. In that regard, most RV operators also have to carry appropriate insurance.

Like most states, Oklahoma sets minimum liability coverage levels required of all drivers. The minimum requirements may protect both the vehicle operator and others in case of an accident. The state’s minimum levels are as follows:

  • $25,000 property damage coverage
  • $25,000 personal injury or death coverage per person
  •  $50,000 personal injury or death coverage per accident

Remember, the state’s minimum requirements are just that, minimum. RV operators usually need much more than the lowest required coverage to operate. They might consider adding collision, comprehensive, full-timer or other coverage.

Affording Your Policy

The cost you will pay for RV insurance will likely vary considerably. Multiple factors influence how the RV insurance agent will determine your price. These might include the RV’s model, storage options, custom features, contents, and the driver’s record.

Nonetheless, there are ways that insurance customers can work to reduce their policy costs.

  • Ask your insurance agent about the discounts different insurers offer. An insurance company might offer accident-free, student, part-time use and other discounts. The appropriate discounts won’t sacrifice coverage, but they will help you save costs.
  • Consider raising your deductible. When you buy a policy, you set a deductible that you promise to pay in the even that you make a claim. Your insurance company then covers the rest of the claim cost. By increasing your deductible, some insurance companies consider you less of a risk. They might decrease your rates.

Remember, it is paramount that you keep your insurance policy active at all times. If your policy lapses, your risk skyrockets. Some insurance companies may refuse to insure you if you have any history of policy lapses.

Work with your RV insurance agent to set up an affordable policy with a payment plan that is right for you. It can help you keep an active policy.
